As I get closer to the end of my podcast commentaries, I’ve also come closer to when I’ll begin writing them for the episodes of Alpha Counter. But in order to do that, I first have to go through each one and edit out the commercials. I’ve been kinda dreading that since those episodes are so much longer than the average podcast episode length. You can imagine my delight earlier today when I tested the process out and found it’s not nearly the chore I thought it would be.
So in the next few weeks, I should be finished writing/posting all the commentary for the last few episodes of my podcast. After that, I get to finally dive into the best moments I’ve ever had in radio and all that came with it.

I decided to condense the site logo a bit in order to give more attention toward the actual blog content. I’ve also added some navigation links below the logo. Right now, the links are done in plain HTML, but I’d like to eventually learn how to play with the code so that they’re managed the same way that the “Pages” section in the side bar currently is. I may or may not remove the “Pages” section entirely in the meantime.
What had bugged me the most is that I couldn’t get a link to the homepage in the “Pages” list. Up until now, I’d supplemented one by adding a link via the logo. While I’m sure most people would be able to figure that out, it’s always best to have some kind of obvious link to the homepage for those who aren’t so intuitive.

Every now and then I check the stat reports of this site and one thing always leaves me curious. Ever since I launched thegreyghost.net, one thing has remained in the top three of items most viewed…my Nosey Boss Rant.
The weird thing–and maybe I’m not reading the reports correctly–is that I can’t really tell where people are getting it from. I hot-linked it once (a second time recently, though I’d already noticed it’s popularity by then) and ever since, it’s held that top spot. I’ve yet to create a page listing my other rants, but maybe I should. But then I’ve also hot-linked my Game Boy Advance Rant twice before and it’s gotten almost no attention.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m proud of the rant. I still stand by every word. It’s the longest and most passionate one I’d ever done. As it’s creator, I’d just like to know how it’s catching on. What kind of attention it’s getting. You know…just some general feedback.

I turns out that the “campaign” over at Dreamcast.com earlier this week was a big scam. For what purpose, I’m not sure, other than gathering people’s DC serial numbers and email addresses. Luckily, I used an email address that I normally use in case of junk anyway. However, I do feel kinda dumb for not only falling for it, but also spreading word around. Since the names and logos used on the site are being used illegally, I hope Sega seriously kicks their ass.

Hello, faithful readers… You may notice a bit of a lull over the next week or two. I’ll be working on a special project at my day job that requires some overtime. That means, I won’t be able to keep up with and comment on the monkey business of the web, nor indulge in much of my own.
Worry not! This will be temporary and I will post whenever I can!

Just a quick note, I’ve added a contact page, for anyone who’d like to send me an email. Also, I updated the “About This Site” page to include some staff info, since I’m hoping to have more than just myself contribute to this site.

As the administrator of this site, I have to make sure that it’s as accessible to as many people as possible. So far, I’ve been managing the code as if the only web browser that people use is Mozilla’s Firefox. It’s only now occurred to me that the majority of people on the intertron still use Internet Explorer as their browser of choice. So out of curiosity, I pulled up this site in IE and I’ve learned that it doesn’t quite look as good when viewed that way. Especially the Radio Show Archives page.
So I’m going to look into fixing the code so that it’s viewable for both of those browsers. Since IE and Firefox are the Big Two in the web browser market, those are what I’ll be focusing on almost exclusively. Though if you are looking browsing the intarwebs using IE, please do yourself a big favor and switch over to Firefox. It’s free and well, better.

As you might have noticed, I’ve added some link buttons to the sidebar of the site. Just some places that I think are cool and deserve some attention. I may add or delete some of them as I go along (especially since Doujinaroni doesn’t really update anymore, though they’re still worth checking out).
Also, I’m no longer the soul author for this site, even though I do own it. I’ve invited Matt “Phantom Harlock” Kraft on board to contribute to the site’s content. Matt’s a buddy of mine that I’ve known since college and he was also my partner for the Alpha Counter radio show. I’m not sure how often he’ll post, but I look forward to when he does. Matt specializes in competitive gaming events, including first-person shooters as well as fighting games like Virtua Fighter. He’s also a fellow disgruntled geek, much like myself.

It’s that time to look back at the year’s past and, take what we’ve learned, and direct ourselves into where we want to go in the future. Put simply, let’s get to those new year’s resolutions!
I’ll stick with my usual lot of eating better, exercising more, saving money, and making more time to see friends. But I have a few more to tag on for good measure.
First, I want to keep on the guys at work for getting me involved in web development. I want to be working in that department full time by this time next year. Ideally to the point where I can do my work remotely, from home or anywhere. The goal is to be able to stay gainfully employed by the time Ashley gets her teaching license next year so that I’ll be free to follow her wherever she may go with it.
I also want to continue working on this site. Last month, I set myself up with the challenge of making five posts per week. I was inspired by a job listing looking for a game reviewer that had that as one of it’s requirements. I’m proud to say that I’ve been doing a pretty good job so far! I may bend the rule a bit by counting any day that I work on the site, not just writing posts. I’ve been reading up on how to manage a site and possibly capitalize on it. I don’t expect to make any real money (if any), but I would like to prove to myself that I can do something significant with it. Though it will be hard to top David Sirlin’s comment here.
Those are my biggest resolutions. I have tons of minor things I’d like to improve upon myself, but those are key. The only other thing I can think of is playing more Street Fighter. Even if I only play single-player like a loser. With all the hype around the franchise next year and the game room events at Animazement, I’d like to stay somewhat fresh.
Happy New Year, everybody! See you in 2008!

I started this site up mostly to learn how to actively manage operating a website. But sometimes I like to entertain the idea that I could be a professional blogger or even journalist. Even when it feels like I’m getting better at it, I look around me at people who are already out there and I feel discouraged.
It’s cool, though… I’ve come to understand that even if I did achieve that goal, there are heavy prices to pay. That can be illustrated with this guy’s latest 1UP blog entry. I’ve noticed a lot of similarities in those that I look up to as being more successful in this field. Most of them are guys who (even at my age) live in apartments with one or more roommates. They usually have difficulty keeping steady girlfriends. And despite all the cool swag they may accumulate, they still have money troubles.
Seeing that makes me appreciate the things that I have accomplished. I live on my own. I have an amazing girlfriend whom I clash with rarely. And even though I don’t live in extravagance, I ain’t starving… The key is being able to wisely define what is success. I may not be satisfied with myself in the now, but I’d like think that I’ll fare better than many of them in the long run. Whether I should be genuinely concerned or if my discouragement is based in envy. It’s quite the dilemma deciding whether to seize life while I’m young or invest in my later years.
Heh, we all wish we were Batman, but no one wants to have Batman’s life, you know?
One thing that I do have to acknowledge is that the benefit of living with a bunch of buddies is good for keeping your wits sharp. I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t think that I’m as funny as I used to be. I feel like I peaked when I would see my best friends on a daily basis. In the past few years, I haven’t had (arguably, made) the time to see anyone socially more than once every couple weeks. Whatever the cause, it’s dulled my wit drastically, which has also stunted any talents I’d like to nurture.
My hope is that in the coming year, with my transition into working on web content full time, I’ll be more free to expand my social life. Maybe then I’ll feel more fulfillment, regardless of how my blogging career is (or isn’t) going…
