Fan Service – Catch VD (Valentine’s Day)

There is some strange sexually transmitted pathogen going around wherein one lover is able to mystically convince the other that Valentine’s Day doesn’t exist. It pushes the victim into a state of denial so deep that all things pink and fragrant are pocketed into some cognitive blind spot throughout the month of February.

The disease affects men and women differently, specifically in how they spread it to their partner. Type I mostly applies to women. They will design a form of trap—one where they lure their prey into a test of devotion. She may claim that through the daily grind, this is a holiday that can be pardoned. “We celebrate Valentine’s Day every day,” is the usual ruse.

Don’t believe it. This is one scenario when television sitcoms have spoken truth for generations. Whether or not she has something secretly prepared for you, you must proceed with holiday traditions as normal. Fail this test and you will be punished in one way or another.

Finally! A new installment of Fan Service; the advice column what will hopefully arm my fellow geeks with the skills to overcome the social hurdles that defeat us so often. This time, I’m again addressing the fellas, but ladies please chime in!

Asking a person out can be a delicate art. Once you’ve broken the ice and charmed her with your personality, the moment comes to–as they say–make the sale. Luckily, I’ve discovered that one technique will greatly increase the chances of success.

Fan Service – Put Down That Pickup Line

Whenever I’ve mentioned my advice column, the first topic requested for discussion is a list of successful pickup lines. I can’t agree more; this subject demands exploration.

First and foremost, pickup lines are bullshit. They don’t work. If ever they do work, it’s because the woman targeted is either too inebriated or devoid of scruples to make any prudent judgment. There is no incantation a man can recite that will enthrall a woman in fascination with him. The “pickup artists” you saw on TV have sold you a false bill of goods.
