Francesca Dani as Princess Zelda

I can’t believe I’ve been doing this Cosplay of the Week thing for so long and I haven’t posted any thing by Francesca Dani. That might be because finding full galleries of her costumes is hard to come by, since access to that section of her homepage requires a credit card.

All the same, I managed to snag these shots of Francesca as Princess Zelda from her blog. The level of detail of her costume’s accessories, along with her fair Western features suit her well for the elfish Zelda.

Zettai Ryoiki as Sheryl Nome

Macross Frontier, while good, is no Macross Plus in my book. Nor can Sheryl Nome, while also good, hold a candle to Sharon Apple.

That said, Zettai Ryoiki does a fantastic portrayal of Sheryl in this week’s featured cosplay gallery. This is one of her concert outfits; possibly the most risque. But you’ll get no opposition to that by me. Though from the looks of the backdrop, I hope Sheryl’s able to book fancier gigs than this dive. Unless it’s just karaoke night..?

Omi Gibson IS Mikura from Mezzo Forte

Mezzo Forte, just like any anime woven by Yasuomi Umetsu, is crap that endeavors with furrowed brow to not be porn…but it is.

Nevertheless, Omi Gibson magically suits Umetsu’s unique art style, again realizing an entity borne of ink and paint. I don’t know how she does it, but I don’t make it a habit of asking uninteresting questions.

Igarashi Natsumi as Aisaka Taiga

Unfortunately, I don’t know much about Igarashi Natsumi, but she fits Toradora!‘s palmtop tiger like a glove. Aisaka is a difficult character to accurately cosplay, since she has a very specific look: Youthful, petite, and spunky. Natsumi, in these photos, has this nailed.

Hezachan as Faye Valentine

Hezachan, now world famous by her Longcat scarf, has recently completed her latest cosplay jewel: Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop. As you’d expect, the most challenging piece of any Faye Valentine costume it her vest, since in order to attractively conform to her body, it requires forces that are more mystical than mechanical.

Fortunately, Hezachan is quite magical.

Yaya Han in Yakuza Bodypaint

Holy hot sauce! Yaya Han may have outdone herself in one of her most recent photo shoots. She isn’t dressed as any specific character; she is simply a Yakuza tattoo girl.

Okay, it may be inappropriate to use the term “dressed” in this case. Aside from the robe, the only thing between Yaya’s skin and the open air is a layer of body paint. The design and application is by Nick Wolfe, who will now be referred as Lucky Ass McMoFo.

Did you notice: Her hair pins are butterflies.

Omi Gibson as Poison from 'Final Fight'

I know that there’s a popular theory regarding Poison’s…”politics”. However I maintain–in defiance of canon–that Poison was born a woman and has remained as such.

However, when brought to life by the lovely Omi Gibson, I may be more open to overlooking these minor details.

Final Fight is also a fun game. Just ask our podcast.

Let's not forget Poison's friend Roxy.

??? as Elena from Street Fighter III

I’m ashamed to say that I struggle to find the identities of the cosplay models that I showcase in the column. Among I feel shame more especially, is this lady costumed as Elena from Street Fighter III. If anyone can supply a name, that would be awesome sauce.

I appreciate this case because it is a steep challenge for an Asian person to pull off a convincing portrayal of an African person who practices Capoeira. The high heels are a bit curious, but then she may have feet too tender to risk harm against sharp river stones.

Zombie Disney Princesses

I don’t know the identities of any of the ladies pictured above or below, but in both cases, that’s some incredible organization. Let us appreciate that not only did they collect a group of attractive ladies appropriate for the princess role they’ve assumed, but also cleverly ravaged them into zombie form. Kudos, ladies!

Ambrosia as Sharon Apple

There needs to be more Sharon Apple cosplay. Bravo to Ambrosia for being one of the bold few to attempt a character that may have fallen into obscurity.

Ambrosia here is elegantly robed as the “Wanna Be An Angel” version of Sharon, seen exclusively in Macross Plus: Movie Edition. While I accept the movie version of Macross Plus as its own entity, my love will always fall upon the OVA, which we discussed in the podcast here.
