Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is quite possibly the only “panty” show to emerge from Japan to win my complete and absolute favor. It’s a show conceived an ocean away from its true audience–the cartoon parallel to a teriyaki cheeseburger with a side of wasabi fries.

The beaded drips of disappointment from otaku looking to this show as spank material is delicious Schadenfreude. Amidst all the dick and fart jokes, you’ll find no money shot. Appreciate the satisfaction of busting a gut over busting a nut.

I WANT TO BELIEVE!!

In the Method to Madness podcast, I’m joined with my good friend Kevin “The Business” Gray to discuss great anime and video games that you should be watching as well as ones you should feel ashamed you are watching.

  1. I’ve been watching this show since it came out, and it’s been excellent. It’s a very VERY polarizing show though, a lot of anime fans seem to hate it, and viewers that aren’t big into anime love it.

Primary arguments against I’ve seen are that Panty’s a slut, and the humor is juvenile. I fail to see how either are bad. I swear, “maiden purity” anime nerds are terrible.

Dude, i dont get anime nerds in general anyways, like those guys on the Fast Karate forums.

Yea, I vouch Kevins comment on Death Race 2000, awesome Roger Corman film, I think the DVD is worth money.

This show does sound awesome. I think this is the show Gainax spent money to go to England to get location shots, and had some opening for the company for talent while they were there. Dead serious. Ill just wait till they finish the series and watch it or unless Funi picks this up ASAP.

  2. Death Race 2000 is definitely a definitive Corman film. I forget the film made alongside it.

The series really does seem like it’s American films, pop culture and regular culture, as filtered through Japan and lots of PCP.

If they got location shots for this, Zeon, it really doesn’t show. None of the show has an English Architecture feel. It really feels like Japamerica.

Also, I disagree that there’s no money shot. One episode’s monster is nothing but money shot.

I also like the way their weapons work- how even though they’re magically changed clothing, they still need to do maintenance, and how other people’s clothes work just as well.

All i remember in the past year about Gainax was they went to England and were hiring artist there and I take it was for location shots, and this is the most recent anime i can think off by them recently after i heard that. Ill have to find my sources on that later.
