Saber Marionette J confuses the senses, whether it be visually or in concept. The misogynist themes and fan service refused to go unnoticed, but there’s just enough heart and humor that this show gets a pass.

We warn you: Saber Marionette J is as far into this series that you need to tread. Any other suffix to the Saber Marionette title could result in involuntary cries of anguish and flinging loose objects into your screen.

Yes, please.

Website and Podcast Update

September 25th, 2010 by

Hi, folks! This is a sort of winter season prelude State of the Union for TheGreyGhost.net and the Method to Madness podcast…

First, I thank everyone who’s been commenting and participating in the website here! Also, welcome to all the new listeners/readers who are new to the party.

The Method to Madness podcast has just joined up with two online media networks: The Anime Digital Dysfunction Network, as well as the Anime 3000 Network. We’re very excited to be a part of those teams and look forward to interacting with their audiences.

Additionally, regarding the podcast, there may be a couple bonus clip shows in the near-future. Maybe one or two solo or guest podcasts as well. The reason being that between myself settling into my new job and Kevin settling into his new house, time may be too tight to record together as we normally do. If we do end up missing a week or two, we encourage folks to explore our now-year-deep archive.

I do have some more articles planned for my Fan Service dating advice column. At this point, I have notes ready; I just need to flesh them out. Expect the next installment within the next couple weeks! Not to mention some more cosplay interviews!

The month of October is always a torrent of activity ’round these parts; with my birthday, anniversary, NC State Fair (What’s that?), and whatever other adventures fate slides my way. I appreciate your patience and hope you enjoy the rest of the site when content runs slow.

The Mouse and His Child is a cartoon the likes of which we may never see again. Within, you’ll find healthy portions of symbolism, vocabulary, and brutal murder.

Can you believe we’ve done 50 of these podcast things already? That’s right–it’s our first anniversary! Well, it was really last week, but I’d hardly commemorate this milestone along side goddam KissxSis. Thanks to all our Method to Madness listeners and here’s hoping the next year will be as fun as the last.

I can’t find just a clip, so here’s the whole damn thing.
SOMEONE PUBLISH THIS ON DVD.
(I’m looking at YOU, Sanrio!)

HezaChan Cosplay Interview

September 17th, 2010 by

Since the now-infamous photos as Cutie Honey appeared, HezaChan began spreading to cosplay showcase articles and message boards all over the web. Her online fame further perpetuated with the widespread awe of her adorable Longcat scarf.

She was sweet enough to grant me an interview, sharing tales of her adventures in this surreal fandom of ours. As of this post, HezaChan is representin’ in Japan for Tokyo Game Show 2010!

First, a brief bio: In just a few years, HezaChan went from her first anime convention to becoming an ambassador to the community. She’s appeared in several publications, including Animerica and G4. She’s established a strong web presence for herself, maintaining her website (HezaChan.com) as well as regularly updating her LiveJournal, YouTube channel, DeviantArt, and assorted photo galleries.

There’s tons of material covered in this interview, so let’s get this party started!

KissxSisWTF???

Shows like this are currently the methadone of the anime industry. It gets us along day-by-day, but it’s far from a cure and most likely doing more long-term harm than good. Understanding this as I watch KissxSis gets me wondering, “You know, maybe Nick Levasseur was on to something,” as fire cures all ails and evils.

KissxSis presents a window into a world pregnant with insanity. As with every harem show, every warm-blooded biped with a vagina amass toward our lead homeboy’s junk… But none more determined than his two twin sisters. Yes, they are his step-sisters, but this doesn’t excuse either their taboo or their peers insistence that they indulge.

If you like this show, KEVIN HATES YOU.

From #PAgamesdialog

September 10th, 2010 by

Last week, I took part in the Twitter discussion ignited by a recent Penny Arcade strip. The strip stems from a recent article perpetuating the ongoing, exhausting controversy of used video games. Publishers feel robbed. Consumers are bearing the blame. GameStop is the devil. By now, you know this song by heart.

Below, I revisit points brought up in this conversation…

It’s our first feedback episode! We only get to tackle two listener emails, but they’re big ones.

The first is a followup to our God of War III and Bayonetta podcast and the second tests our understanding of the classic Fist of the North Star anime movie. This all, of course, not without its due tangents and rants on our part.

I wish I'd found this picture for our God of War III and Bayonetta podcast.

Review: The Expendables

Words fail me in describing my reaction to The Expendables. At least, written words. Put very simply: I didn’t like it. After several failed drafts, I finally just gathered my notes, fired up the mic, and spoke my peace about this movie.

**SPOILER WARNING!** Proceed with caution.

Since this is just myself and no Kevin for this round, it’s not to be considered part of the Method to Madness canon, though he and I might have a followup to this on the podcast in the future.

Awww… He’s a lover AND a fighter!

What is wrong with this picture? (Don't worry, you'll get two chances to guess.)
