Melty Lancer is like a Japanese version of the Justice League, minus any of the familiar character history. The fact that this OVA is based off of a JRPG on the Sega Saturn doesn’t earn it any favors from us either.
The lead characters rapidly transition from pop culture icons to super-secret black ops to street cops to saviors of the galaxy…all within six episodes. To suggest that this series needed more episodes will earn you a slap in the face… Because we’re not watching any more of this crap!

In the Method to Madness podcast, I’m joined with my good friend Kevin “The Business” Gray to discuss great anime and video games that you should be watching as well as ones you should feel ashamed you are watching.

Of course Jun’s nothing like Priss. She isn’t a rock star. DUH.
But yes, this is much of what I expected your reactions to be when I handed you the DVDs. I’m sure the plot makes some sort of sense… if you play the original games. Alone… not so much. Enjoy Lamune 40 and fresh/flesh.
I personally was never that confused by the plot, but then again, I never really worried about it.

I guess the confusion serves me right for falling asleep halfway through. X_x

Ah, another anime with a Priss clone, oh good. The only other anime where Priss is a cop would be, well Angel Cop, and that anime DOES MAKE SINCE!!!! As much as you guys seem to bring up a Bubblegum Crisis reference every other podcast, im sure that anime is on your “to do” list.
Sean, you Sega Saturn imports are in good hands, that are my hands, and are to good use. I just got all 3 of the Gundam Side Story games last week, i still gotta play the third game though. I fell in love with Saturn graphics of GM and Zaku mobile suits with blocky technology, ah what a good feeling.
This was an anime ive seen time and time again, but never had much of an interest in other than my other high school single anime fans at the time when there like “this chick is hot and blonde and i dont have a date tonight, its time for my lonely man time and this anime is there for it”. I did hear a mention of Sorcerer Hunters, which ive seen ads of that anime back in the day, and being 13 and a semi anime fanboy who liked cartoon boobs, those were great “eye popping” ads.
Ive also gotta add, you have made a mention of an anime off a Sega Saturn game, is there a chance you will do other anime off the Saturn, such as Sakura Wars, Virta Fighter, Battle Arena Toshiden and dare i say… Panzer Dragoon anime? I still need to sit through the Panzer Dragoon anime, and ive only seen the VHS tape of that once in my life and what i have is a VHS rip i found on the net a couple of years back.
Hey now, I love the Fatal Fury animes, I am proud to have those animes (and the movie) on my shelf. I still need to see the Samurai Shodown VHS copy ive had for about 2 years, same with Battle Arena Toshiden. Art of Fighting is bad enough (and funny enough) as it is.

I’m tempted to do some fighting game anime since they tend to be the goofiest. The Street Fighter ones are on the top of that heap.

I have both seasons of the USA Network tv series that i got for free when there was Anole Anime on Hillsborough street before it shut down back in ’07 i think. It was some promo and the girl who worked there was like “yea, take em, its a promo thing (aka we cant get rid of it so take them anyways)”.
If you want me to send them to you to review, i have no problem doing that, or if you need a copy of the other anime i have ill put that on a tape (because my TV Tuner doesnt work right now to rip to computer, and im like 10 years behind).

That’s generous of you, but I also have both sets. I think RightStuf had it for $5 per set.
Although, I am missing the second set of the USA Darkstalkers cartoon. I need to get around to finding that…preferably also for $5.
BTW, Priss cameo at 3:53.

Oh yea, i vaguely remember that episode, it had like a weapon and a group of girls to protect it, and Guile saving the day, of course.
Its like after market hardsuit parts this girl got at a garage sale and was like “This is what i need to take over the world, and hate men at the same time”.

Sean, I have the complete Darkstalkers US show AND the Japanese OAV.
Because it’s not like I haven’t given you and Kevin enough reason to hate me.
And Zeonic, you have his imports, I have his Saturn!

I do like to overachieve.
Well, would a “mob” family work for you, Don Grey Ghost.
Im still trying to figure out imports that i wanna get for that system. So far, Solo Crisis has my interest, even though there is less info on this game than Melty Lancer. There is only this for Solo Crisis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6edcUK735Q
Dont get me wrong, if i never know about Segata, i would have been dead long ago for not getting a Saturn, and i am glad i did. But this commercial doesnt really say what the game is about. I guess i break bricks perhaps? Any other commercial from Segata is pretty easy to find out, Sonic R (racing), Sakura Wars (RPG), Deep Fear (on a boat), but, i cant figure out Solo Crisis.

Solo Crisis is, IIRC, a strategy game, hence Segata’s imperative to ‘USE YOUR HEAD!’

Bah, im not spending that much on Saturn Symphony.
Melty Lancer, is like nothing, so i could do that. But with japanese RPG, its button mashing because i really wouldnt understand it. And, no info on gamefaqs on that game either, same with Solo Crisis.

So where’s my Melty Lancer? I mean you make a joking non deal with someone over the internet, make absolutely no effort to give them any details so they can follow through on it, and they never follow through! I mean what gives!

Its called “eh… i havent gotten around to buying it yet”. I didnt know i was on some time frame that you made up that i didnt know about.
IDK, i did get paid yesterday. Tim, you gotta like, harass me to waste money on this game. Its your sworn duty in life (for now) to pester me on this, unless you throw cash at me so im like “I guess he means business”.

You know, after Space Thunder Kids and now this, watching Mononoke or Trapeze really isn’t as scary. I mean, while your ears may bleed from trying to figure out the complexity and symbolism in the stories, at least they’re intentionally like that and not some horrible radioactive accident of scenes colliding. I’m just sayin!

Mayumi-chan is pretty awesome. You get little glimpses of her personality/history if you watch all of it. Also, the anime makes more sense (if that’s possible) if you watch everything; each episode happens during the same time frame, so you’ll see characters reoccur in different scenes.
