Hey Baby – Feminist Video Game Lynches Leches

The gamer community has been–and perhaps always shall be–a male-dominant population. The context of that statement surrounds only the quantity of males, as most gamer guys are unknown to Alpha characteristics.

Nevertheless, video game companies know that they’ll rake in the most profits by creating games with themes that pander to men. This has resulted in gross demoralization of women and impossible standards of beauty across the industry. With few strong female role models and a general disrespectful objectification of women in games, it’s no wonder why more girls aren’t jumping to join our ranks.

Good news, girls: It’s payback time. Lady Killers, Inc. has developed a new video game, Hey Baby, designed to provide empowerment to those vexed by male chauvinism. The game is a first-person shooter; very reminiscent of Postal 2, but as a woman with a low tolerance for sexual harassment. Her only objective is to retort to unwelcome cat calls with a rain of ammunition. Each round striking men down as an angel of vengeance, carrying the definite message of “No means no!”

This game doesn’t exactly unite the sexes through gender-equalizing enlightenment, but it’s a guilty pleasure that tips the scales at least one point in women’s favor. The game is currently out of stock, though new prints should hit production soon as word spreads across the web. However, there is a “basic” version available for play on the website.

  1. Man, arnt women happy that we gave them the right to vote ages ago.

Judging by the trailer, id gotta say she might be the only girl on that planet full of guys because guys ran outta porn ages ago and hey, when your the only girl, someone has to take her.

Plus that kinda looks like a mod for The Movies. Maybe the developer has issues with guys or something.

… ill try that out sometime. Speaking of indy games, im waiting for my copy of this: http://piersolar.com/index.php

Hehe, yea i don’t have one of those right now. Lucky me right.

What would make that game better is if Mega 64 did a skit on that game. I wouldn’t be surprised.

But im not trying to dis women or anything, im just being stupid. I still wanna play it for the sake of “i need to check this out” kinda attitude when it comes to games.

  2. On the one hand- go go empowerment, even if it probably is the wrong message over all.
On the other-… wow, pretty bad game design, there. I’ll probably try it out, but I can’t say it looks all that engaging

I’m sure you can count the number of people who worked on the game on one hand. Plus, I’m sure it was just some project that was done as a goof that they managed to find a market for.

  3. I’m kinda “eeh” on this one. I’d rather see a game where you can’t tell WHO it’s marketed towards; something that appeals to both men and women. I guess we’re not at that point yet, for the most part, so this is an interesting development.

I think the novelty is what appeals to me. Just that it’s about time someone made something in this spirit against what makes up most of the mainstream and underground gaming press.

I mean is there a story to this other than “im a girl that shoots horny guys because im not a piece of meat.”

I mean, if the story was like “This girl broke out of a research lab and was injected with strong pheromones that no man can resist, and she must find the antidote so men wont have sex with her”, I could go with that. It’s a stupid porn-ish style story, but im like “eh, at least it gives a reason.” I mean if there is a story, fine, no questions asked.

I mean for someone working on a indy FPS game, its not a bad start to mess with things. But for a final product, things need to be changed here and there.
